EXPERIENCE & PERSPECTIVE

From research
to individual care.

Changping Yao brings a background in medicine, acupuncture, and brain research to her Rockville practice. She received an MD degree from Tongji Medical University in China in 1982 and worked with a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner before continuing her training in the United States.

She studied acupuncture and Oriental medicine at the Maryland Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine. Her subsequent training with Dr. Zhiliang Huo included Five Needle Qi Gong Scalp Acupuncture, learned through his seminars and Florida clinic.

Her research experience includes projects at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in North Carolina and Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington, DC. These projects focused on brain injury, neuronal toxicity, and brain degeneration. Today, her practice brings that longstanding interest in the nervous system together with individualized acupuncture care.

WORKING TOGETHER

Bring your questions.

Your appointment is a chance to explain what has been happening, what you have tried, and what you would like help with. A medication list and relevant medical records help place your concerns in context. Mention any sensitivities to needles, pressure, or heat before treatment begins.

Specialized approaches such as scalp acupuncture and auricular acupuncture are considered individually. Your practitioner can explain the purpose of a technique, what you may feel, and how your response will be reviewed.

For complex or ongoing medical conditions, continue working with your medical team. The conditions & care overview explains how complementary care fits alongside specialist treatment. Practical appointment information is available in our FAQs.
