QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

What would you like to know?

How do I make an appointment?

Call Yao's Acupuncture at 240-731-9068 to discuss your concerns and arrange a visit. Office visits are by appointment, and weekend hours are available. Please call to confirm a time before coming to the clinic.

Where is the clinic, and is parking available?

The clinic is at 966 Hungerford Drive, Suite 19A, Rockville, MD 20850. Free parking is available. Use the directions link on our contact page for the correct Rockville office.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Bring a list of your medications and supplements, relevant diagnoses or reports, and the questions you want to discuss. Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to your arms and lower legs. Tell the practitioner about pregnancy, allergies, bleeding conditions, implanted devices, and any concerns about needles.

What happens during an acupuncture appointment?

A visit begins with a conversation about your health history, current concerns, and goals. The practitioner discusses suitable treatment options and explains the proposed approach. Acupuncture uses fine needles at selected points; treatment is adjusted to your comfort and your response.

Does acupuncture hurt, and are there side effects?

Sensations vary. You may notice a brief pinch, tingling, or a dull ache. Tell the practitioner if anything feels uncomfortable. Temporary soreness, bruising, or minor bleeding can occur. Serious complications are uncommon, but acupuncture is not risk-free; your health history helps guide a suitable approach.

How many sessions will I need?

The number and frequency of visits depend on your concern, how long it has been present, and your response. Discuss an initial plan and when to reassess it with the practitioner. There is no fixed number of sessions or guaranteed timetable that works for everyone.

Can I ask about treatment without needles?

Yes. Ear seeds use pressure on the outer ear rather than needle insertion. Massage, cupping, gua sha, and moxibustion are other approaches to discuss. Each has its own considerations, and the practitioner can explain which options may be appropriate for your visit.

Do you accept my health insurance?

Please call the clinic to confirm current payment arrangements and contact your insurer about your specific acupuncture benefits. Ask about network requirements, referrals, visit limits, and any documentation needed for reimbursement. Coverage and eligibility vary by plan.

Can I continue my regular medical treatment?

Yes. Acupuncture can be considered alongside your existing care. Keep your medical appointments and discuss complementary therapies with your healthcare team. Do not stop or change prescribed medication without speaking with the clinician who manages it.

Are herbal remedies required?

Ask the practitioner whether herbs are relevant to your situation; they are not something to start on your own. Herbal products can cause side effects or interact with medicines. Bring a complete medication and supplement list, and involve your prescribing clinician or pharmacist when reviewing possible interactions.

BEFORE YOU COME IN

A simple first-visit checklist.

Bring your health history

Prepare a list of prescription medicines, supplements, allergies, and past procedures. Bring relevant test results or clinical notes if available. Tell your practitioner about pregnancy, blood thinners, implanted medical devices, skin concerns, or reduced sensation.

Dress for comfort

Loose clothing makes it easier to access the areas involved in treatment. You can ask which areas will be treated and how your privacy will be respected. Let your practitioner know if you feel cold, lightheaded, or uncomfortable at any point.

Write down your priorities

Think about the activities or symptoms you most want to discuss. A short record of how often a concern occurs, what changes it, and what you have already tried can make the conversation more useful. You do not need to arrive with a preferred technique.

Confirm the visit by phone

Call 240-731-9068 for an appointment and to ask about fees, expected visit length, or access needs. Weekend appointments are available. Our office has free parking at 966 Hungerford Drive, Suite 19A, Rockville, MD 20850.
